liveBooks is very excited to announce our sponsorship of In the Make. In The Make is a collaboration between photographer Klea McKenna and writer Nikki Grattan. Through studio visits with artists and designers, they explore each artist’s space, process, influences, and the behind-the-scenes elements that are often unseen in the finished work. They aim to highlight the ways in which each artist’s personal aesthetic pervades their environment and reveals their perspective. They are also interested in the daily realities of making creative work and how each artist sustains their practice.

Alexandra Grant is a Los Angeles-based painter, sculptor and conceptual artist who often works in collaboration with other artists and writers. The basis for her work is language and words, and she investigates the ways in which text can be expressed through image while exploring themes of identity, dis/location, and translation. Her collaborative endeavors also extend to community work with organizations such as Watts House Project, which aims to bring artists and residents together to revitalize and redevelop the Watts neighborhood of LA.
