A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, I’ve been shooting food and still life photography for over 20 years. My images can be seen worldwide, in advertising campaigns, on food packaging, and in countless cookbooks.
I come from a rich culinary history and a long line of chefs. My great-grandfather learned the culinary craft in the Cognac region of France. He eventually earned a chef position at The Langham Hotel in London and later the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. His son, my grandfather, followed suit and became a chef at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.
My photographic background began while I was attending The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After a two-year apprenticeship with a food photographer in the city, I moved to New York City for three years to apprentice with some of the foremost food photographers in the industry. Armed with my New York connections and skills, I returend to San Francisco and opened Michael Lamotte Studios.
