In The Make: Artist Angela Hennessey discovers the cultural biography of materials.

Posted by Melissa Dubasik

We often experience art through the materials with which the artist chooses.  This visual and tactile exploration is a specialty of Oakland artist, Angela Hennessey.   Whether it be soap, metal, thread, wool, velvet, mirror, fuzz or dust, Hennessey’s work caresses our curiosity and motivates us to ponder our race, mortality, sexuality and existence.  A formally trained metalsmith, her choice of materials is sometimes decided upon by how a material reacts with gravity or light.
